Flagellation or flogging is the act of methodically beating or whipping (Latin flagellum, “whip”) the human body. Specialised implements for it include rods, switches, the cat o’ nine tails and the sjambok. Typically, flogging is imposed on an unwilling subject as a punishment; however, it can also be submitted to willingly, or performed on oneself, in religious or sadomasochistic contexts. In some circumstances the word “flogging” is used loosely to include any sort of corporal punishment, including birching and caning. The flogger, in various forms, has played a surprisingly vital role in shaping the history of mankind. Throughout the centuries, our ancestors have incorporated it not only into their sexual practices, but into their spiritual, judicial and even medical practices as well. Flagellation in the name of a god is far from being a rare thing. Nearly all of the mother religions, the ancient mystery cults of the great Mediterranean civilizations of Greece, Egypt, Rome and Persia, and even the religions of Islam and Christianity have, at some point in history, incorporated flagellation into their spiritual rites and practices.
In pagan Sparta each year, during a festival called ‘Day of Flagellations’, young men were brought before an altar dedicated to the goddess Diana where they were whipped for from dusk to dawn. People would turn out from all over the countryside to view the whippings and to cheer and encourage the boys to ‘bear the pain with fortitude.’ Priests, who would bear witness to the entire ceremony, would, at the end of the day, examine the wounds on each of the boys, and, according to the sizes and shapes of the wounds, would predict the young men’s futures. It was not uncommon for some of the boys to die from the terrible wounds inflicted upon them during this ceremony, often without ever having uttered a sound.

Are there sex differences in masochism? For a long time, this question was asked in relation to Freud’s suggestion that women are more masochistic. Various thinkers, like Helen Deutsch and Theodor Reik, debated whether males or females were the more masochistic sex. This went back and forth for decades.
In retrospect, the whole debate may have been stupid. It is now clear that there are masochists who are men, and there are others who are women. And neither is typical: That is, most men and most women are not masochistic. Masochists are a minority found among both men and women.
But that doesn’t mean that gender is irrelevant. Male masochists and female masochists don’t seem to desire, do, and enjoy exactly the same things. It may be possible to speak of male and female styles of masochism.
Research on these different styles is just beginning. I can tell you roughly how male and female masochists differ. What these differences mean is harder to say. Keep in mind that these are merely broad, general trends, while every masochist is a unique individual, there are many males who are closer to the feminine style than the masculine style, and vice versa. You can make generalizations about masochists, but there are always many exceptions.

A Vancouver man’s enthusiasm for bondage and his pagan beliefs were not the reason he was denied a permit to drive a limousine, the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal has ruled. Peter Hayes had alleged that the Vancouver Police Board and specifically Const. Kevin Barker denied him a chauffeur’s permit because of his religion and sexual orientation. But tribunal member Heather MacNaughton wrote in a decision dismissing Hayes’s complaint Tuesday that police legitimately believed Hayes “posed a risk of acting violently, coercively or inappropriately towards customers as a limousine driver.”
According to tribunal documents, Hayes says that he is a practicing Pagan and that his sexual orientation is BDSM. Hayes describes himself as a “lifestyler” who wants BDSM to permeate all aspects of his life. He is also bisexual and enjoys the company of multiple sexual partners. He applied for a chauffeur’s permit with the Vancouver Police Department’s taxi unit in May 2005, and was interviewed by Barker, who was tasked with vetting his application.
Hayes arrived at the interview dressed all in black: black trench coat, black shirt, black dress pants, black tie and shiny black military boots. When Barker asked what the occasion was for all the black, Hayes testified that he said he always wore black, like many Pagans.

Submissive girl is tautly secured spread-eagle to the floor via chains and cuffs. Once in place Master takes over and begins to paint hot wax onto her body with a brush. Lots of wax. The first words out of her mouth are… that’s really fucking hot… Master just keeps working as though she didnt say a thing. She screams. Her breasts move about. She raises her head in exasperation. Her breathing is heavy and labored. And theres lots of wax to go. She screams more. Master pops in and puts the Hitachi on her for a bit. She doesn’t like that at all. Finally she begs to simply be beaten. But thats too easy. She alternates between anger, desperation and sheer terror. Sometimes a hand or a foot just begins to move independently, rocking on its own in some crazy rhythm propelled by pain. And if she didn’t have enough discomfort going on He placed a clothespin on her clit. Then He placed the Hitachi on the end of the clothespin. This made her scream out Aw, FUCK! She seemed like she was getting a little bored. Master asked her how it felt but it was hard to hear her over the constant whacking sound the clothespin was making each time it was vibed off the Hitachi. Rather like a woodpecker making a hole in a tree (or the side of the house in the case of The Attic). But He made out something about how much it hurt.
He walks over to the bed and gazes at her sleeping so peacefully. He has plans for her tonight that she has shared with others but not with Him, well tonight that will all change. He rips the covers off her and grabs her by the hair taking her into the bathroom. She is still half a sleep but she struggles as He pulls her along. She half steps and stumbles into the tub as He pushes her down to her knees. Before she can react He orders he to pull His shorts down as she does He tells her that tonight she will do things His way and that weather she likes it or not she will obey immediately. To extenuate His point the lets go a stream of urine onto her lovely breasts. Now clean up and before you come to Me put on the restraints I have so thoughtfully laid out for you. As she bends down to turn on the water, He swats her beautiful ass.
She is shaking as she is getting cleaned up wondering what in the hell just happened but knows better that to ask. She quickly cleans up and gets out of the shower. She notices her restraints on the counter along with a sheer nighty, is she supposed to put that on also, no He did not tell her to but it is sitting there. She puts on her restraints and walks into the bedroom.

Subspace (also sub space, headspace, flying, or floating) is a specific state of mind that a submissive may enter, particularly after intense activities and/or (depending on the person) intense pain play, characterized by euphoria, bliss, a strong feeling of well-being, or even a state similar to intoxication. Thought to be related to the release of endorphins in the brain. The euphoria associated with subspace may last for hours or sometimes even days after the activity ceases.
Subspace is a metaphor for the state the bottom’s mind and body is in during a deeply involved play scene. Many types of BDSM play invoke strong physical responses. The psychological aspect of BDSM also causes many bottoms to mentally separate themselves from their environment as they process the experience. Deep subspace is often characterized as a state of deep recession and incoherence. Deep subspace may also cause a danger in newer bottoms who are unfamiliar with the experience, and require the dominant to keep a careful watch to ensure the bottom isn’t placing him or her self in danger. Many bottoms require aftercare while returning from subspace.
Subspace is a form of trance. Trance in its essence is a state of being, different from your “normal” state of being. During trance your mind excludes most of its input and concentrates on just one or only very few impulses, completely disregarding all others. Trance is the result of hormonal activity. Hormones are substances in your body, responsible for communication between the brain and the cortex and the rest of the body. For subspace a group of hormones, called “peptides” is important. Peptides are amino acids. Many look like morphine and have attributes, that can be compared to morphine. For subspace endorphins – a group of such peptides – are an important ingredient.

Male chastity belt (or male chastity cage, or penis prison, or chastity tubes) is a device which encloses the male genitals to prevent stimulation and erection. Chastity tubes or cages, or even piercings, are stimulation prevention devices for males – these popular devices are commonly referred to as “chastity belts”. Ironically, modern male chastity devices are almost exclusively used as a sex aid and in BDSM play. Since most chastity devices effectively prevent masturbation, it means one partner gives the other control of all orgasms. This can be a great deal of fun for both people. A female partner locks her man’s penis into one of these devices. She takes the key to work and leaves it there. The very fact that she now controls when he can enjoy sexual release is a turn-on. Over a fairly short time, most men will be very anxious to get unlocked long enough for a chance to come.
The period from 1850 to 1930 is full of truly strange sexual history. For example, in the 1850’s it became a widely held belief that male masturbation caused insanity. This triggered nearly a hundred years of increasingly demonic inventions designed to prevent young men from playing with themselves or having wet dreams. Male inmates in asylums were routinely fitted with devices to prevent them from making their conditions worse through ejaculation. Males were protected from themselves; prevented from touching and stimulating themselves. Ideally, they were also prevented from nocturnal emissions as well. Today, according to Paul of Access Denied, chastity belt maker, seventy-five percent of chastity belts are for a male wearer. Three quarters of all delivered belts are male belts, and the remaining quarter are female belts. You can read about female chastity belts in our article Female Chastity Belts.

Infernal Restraints is a successor to the legendary BDSM site Insex. Insex was one of the biggest BDSM websites on the Internet and arguably the most extreme American pornographic production featuring female submissives. It was also a leading innovator in both live video streaming, pioneering the concept before broadband Internet access existed, and in the depiction of BDSM practices on the Internet. Insex developed a cult following among BDSM enthusiasts due to its uncommonly severe and realistic depiction of sadomasochistic practices. It was also known for its interactive “Live Feeds” which allowed members to make direct suggestions and requests. It existed from 1997 to 2005 and was run by “Intersec Interactive Inc.”, a company owned by the website’s creator, Brent Scott, former Carnegie Mellon professor, Dom and bondage legend known as “PD”. Many prominent names in fetish modeling either started at Insex or passed through it at one point in their career, as did bondage riggers including such figures as Claire Adams, Cyd Black, Princess Donna and Matt Williams, who all went on to work for the internet pornography company Kink.
In the fall of 2005, Insex announced it was looking for a buyer, because “continuing to produce Insex from the U.S. would be too great a potential liability.” It came as a result of attempts by the U.S. government to limit internet pornography, specifically by implementing a FBI anti-obscenity initiative in August 2005; an FBI memorandum stated that productions where the content includes “urination, defecation, as well as sadistic and masochistic behavior” would “most likely” be legally targeted. So in 2005 Insex ended the production of original BDSM material. But in the same year Brent Scott started to create two new BDSM themed web sites, named Hardtied and Infernal Restraints, so Scott would have an avenue to continue to produce and sell content for the web. Infernal Restraints is the Source of original extreme device bondage porn from the creators of Insex and bondage legend PD.

Breathplay is a form of edgeplay that is a hard limit for some BDSM players. However it comes in many forms and you may find a variety you enjoy. This article discusses the various forms of breathplay, risk and safety and how breathplay feels.
There are many ways you could break down these forms, below breathplay is devided into three categories.
– Compression of the carotid arteries
– Compression of the trachea or wind pipe
These two are often combined, for example when trying to stop bloodflow in the carotid arteries you may be applying pressure to the trachea.
Throttling with the hands and strangling with a rope share the same risks however when using the hands pressure can be controlled more easily. A hanging scene is more dangerous again with the subs body weight applying the pressure to the neck, tip toes will work as well as being off the ground. First the sub needs to be firmly on the ground then the rope removed. You cannot trust that you will be able to remove the rope with your hands. Always have EMT scissors ready. Never drop a sub into hanging as this could damage the spinal cord.
If the purpose is to reach unconciousness a stranglehold is very effective and can achieve this in roughly three seconds. This is much more comfortable for the sub.
– Other play that restricts airflow
Hand over mouth – putting your hand over a partners mouth during sex is probably the most common form of breathplay. The hand can form a tight seal with the option of blocking the nose to increase the intensity. This is a good place to start for beginners to breathplay especially in the missionary position where the Top can watch the bottoms reactions.

The rack is probably one of the most infamous torture devices since it was in use for a very long time. This device was more of an actual machine than anything. No torture chamber would be complete without the rack, known throughout the world by different names: to the Romans it was “equuleus” (young horse); the French named it “Banc de Torture”, to the Spanish it was “escalera” (ladder), Germany knew it as “Streckbank” (stretching frame) or “Schlimme Liesel” (fearful Eliza), Italians named it “La Veglia” and the British nickname was “the Duke of Exeter’s Daughter”. Whatever the name, it was a fearsome device that broke countless prisoners. Indeed, a person stretched on the rack presented the ultimate spectacle of the body in pain. A victim would often be placed on the rack naked or nearly so, and their taut skin would run with the sweat of their agonies.
Probably the most widely used instrument of torture, the rack is to date back to the ancient Greeks. The basic idea of the rack may have originated in the Greek legend of the giant bandit Procrustes. It was rumored that he possessed a bed made of iron that was the right size for any guest. After luring unwary travelers to sleep on the iron bed, he would stretch them to fit – tall travelers had their legs or head lopped off and fed to a giant tortoise. The rack was used since antiquity, being used on St. Vincent and mentioned by the Church Fathers Tertullian (on extraction of confessions from criminals and on persisting Christian “sacrilegers” against the state religion) and St. Jerome (used on a woman according to his first letter).
