Female Chastity Belts

Chastity belt – any device intended to prohibit contact with or stimulation of the genitals. They may be used to protect the wearer from rape or temptation. Some devices have been designed with additional features to prevent masturbation. Today it is used in dominant/submissive and sadomasochistic relationships by people as a sexual toy. This article is dedicated only to female chastity belts.

According to modern myth the chastity belt was used as an anti-temptation device during the Crusades. When the knight left for the Holy Lands on the Crusades, he would force his Lady to wear a chastity belt to preserve her faithfulness to him. Unfortunately the chastity belt is not a medieval invention but a product of the over-active 19th Century imagination. There is no credible evidence that chastity belts existed before the 15th century, more than one hundred years after the last Crusade. There are, in fact, no genuine chastity belts dating from medieval times: all known ‘medieval’ chastity belts have been produced in the first half of the 19th Century. Most of the ‘medieval’ chastity belts on display in museums have been tested to confirm their actual age. These fake-medieval chastity belts are too heavy and the workmanship is too crude, even for medieval standards. The oldest design for a chastity belt that can be taken seriously dates from the 16th Century – but it’s just a design, with no real working models believed to have ever been constructed. The concept of a chastity belt itself is a lot older, but it was usually used in poems in a metaphorical sense.

So chastity belts and their usage are rather recent phenomena, and in the vast majority of the cases, women were not forced to use it. Despite the common misconception, the use of the chastity belt was not usually imposed by men on women in order to force them to be faithful. If we use medieval poetry as a reliable source, we discover that the use of chastity belts was often in consensus between both parties. Real chastity belts became available later, and the majority of chastity belts were bought in the 19th Century, in England, by women. Often they would use the apparatus to avoid the consequences of sexual harassment in the workplace. In the 19th Century it was mostly used to avoid sexual advances of horny employers.

There are many different models of female chastity belts. Female chastity belts often take the form of a lockable harness which passes between the legs and around the waist. The classical version for women consists of a metal belt and a metal band runnig trough the legs with a hole for urination and a hole for defactation. The belt is closed and connected with the band with a lock. Another models, consisting of a metal belt, a shield covering the vulva, connected to the belt, and one or two chains attaching the shield with the belt, the chains running over the buttocks, or the chain running between the buttocks, dividing the faces in two parts. The shield has a hole or a slit for urination. Sometimes a second strap covers that hole to prevent masturbation.

Today, chastity belts are used in BDSM play and in consensual relationships. They are a means for the wearer to surrender control over their sexual behavior either for sexual play, or as a long-term method of preventing infidelity or masturbation.

Stainless steel does not rust, so the belt will not corrode as the wearer wears it. Even urine, or other bodily secretions will not damage the belt. The Chastity Belts made today have no rough edges. They are all smoothly sanded and polished to prevent cuts, scratches, or scrapes to the wearer. Also Chastity Belts made today are edged with neoprine or some other rubber like coating which smooths and pads the surface of the belt so it is safe and comfortable for the wearer.

It’s important to remember a couple of safety tips. The belt should be removed during menstruation. Lots of toxic things can happen to a woman if that blood doesn’t drain fully. And it needs to come off weekly for cleaning. It isn’t terribly safe or comfortable for a woman to wear a chastity belt for long periods. Menstruation is messy and the menstrual discharge will collect in and around the vagina. This is bound to cause infection. Even when not menstruating, most women have some vaginal discharge. The female belt just doesn’t permit enough access to permit proper sanitation. So, if you want to practice long term chastity play with a woman, there must be daily sessions when the belt is off and she can be properly cleaned.
