A clitoris piercing is a piercing through the clitoris itself. The great majority of women who want them actually want more common clitoral hood piercing, which pierces only the hood of the clitoris. Clitoris piercing is a rare piercing because many women’s anatomies are not ideally suited to clit piercing. And also the act of piercing the clit is often too intense for many women. The piercing that has a primary purpose of sexual arousal would most definitely make sex feel more intense. A few women have written that they have experienced spontaneous orgasms immediately after piercing. This piercing can be extremely sexually stimulating. But hyper-sensitivity usually decreases once the piercing heals and the clitoris grows accustomed to the presence of the jewelry.

There is also an opinion, that clit piercing may reduce the physical sensations during sex. Or even there’s a risk of a chance for permanent nerve damage and losing all sensation of the clitoris. Nerve damage can result from piercing a clitoris that is too small or from piercing through the shaft of the clitoris and through the dorsal nerve. Piercing through the shaft of the clitoris can also result in excessive bleeding and blood loss to the clitoris. But women may remove the jewelry and allow the piercing to heal in order to bring sensitivity back to its original state. Some research suggests that a supposed loss of sensitivity is more likely due to the fact that a woman may become accustomed to the level of stimulation felt with the piercing and does not actually signify a decrease in feeling.

The clitoris is very sensitive, and this is not an advisable piercing for most women. Anatomically, the clitoris has to be large enough to support the body jewelry and easily exposed to be safe to pierce and to heal. And clitoris has to be large enough to avoid being constricted by the clitoral hood tissue. Piercing a clitoris that is too small could result in serious nerve damage as a result of improper placement. The larger percent of the population of women are not suitable for this piercing. Its sad but true.

The clitoris must be at least 1/4″ wide and the hood must not constrict the jewelry. Providing that the clitoris is large enough to be pierced safely, and is exposed (sticks out) rather than hooded (covered over with layer of skin), it can be pierced either vertically or horizontally with a barbell or captive bead ring. Vertical piercing only should be done on a hooded clitoris, to prevent turning of the jewelry, although piercing a hooded clitoris is really not advisable at all. Rings are appropriate for horizontal piercings only if the clitoris is exposed or very loosely hooded.

If you are considering this piercing, it is in your best interests to consider it very thoughtfully. Piercing the clit is very dangerous and takes a professional to do the procedure. It should be attempted only by a highly experienced master. Have him evaluate you first to see if your anatomy is suitable for clitoral piercing. If not, a clitoral hood piercing may be more to your liking and a lot safer.

Initial jewelry: Barbells in 16 to 14 gauge and 5/16″ to 7/16″ in length; the barbell should be 1/16″ longer than the width of the piercing. Captive bead rings in 16 to 14 gauge and 5/16″ to 7/16″ in diameter.

Estimated healing time for clitoral piercing is about 4-6 weeks. During this time do not touch your piercing, or let others touch it while it is healing. Do not wash the piercing with soap. Never use alcohol swabs, Betadine, hydrogen peroxide, or methylated spirits to clean your piercing. Take vitamin C and zinc to maximise your healing. Wait two weeks before having sex. Pain, redness and unusual discharge may be due to infection. Consult your piercer or a physician if you develop any of these symptoms.
